Firenze

We are at a very pleasant hotel in downtown Florence (Firenze). We walked to a very good restaurant for dinner and then for a bit of a jaunt by Il Duomo and Piazza de la Signoria. Florence was shaped by the Renaissance period, and was not too damaged in the war, so the architecture is very different from that in Rome or Assisi. Tomorrow, we have a big day planned with a tour, on foot of course, of some of the most important places in Florence, as well as a fresco painting class - that should be interesting, to say the least.

Everyone seems to be having a good time. We were all happy for Vanessa who accomplished a big goal today. Perhaps the prayers to St. Francis were answered.

Parents, be aware ... en route to dinner, we passed quite a few fashionable stores. Keeping the girls together was a challenge as the window shopping and plans for our free time (hey, let's go shopping...) were being made. I hope everyone has some room left in their suitcases!

Comment posters - thanks for sending along your comments. Please add your name to the comment at the end. We have been sharing these with the girls as they have been coming in. This hotel even has some guest computers, so all the girls should be able to check their email accounts and view the blog comments.

We'll try to get a post or two done tomorrow. Ciao a tutti.

And one more picture from the Eternal City....
